Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive with the help of cmd.
In windows (XP/7/8/8.1/10)
To create a bootable USB flash drive
- Insert a USB flash drive into a running computer.
- Open a Command Prompt window as an administrator.
- Type
diskpart
. - In the new command line window that opens, to determine the USB flash drive number or drive letter, at the command prompt, type
list disk
, and then click ENTER. Thelist disk
command displays all the disks on the computer. Note the drive number or drive letter of the USB flash drive. - At the command prompt, type
select disk <X>
, where X is the drive number or drive letter of the USB flash drive, and then click ENTER. - Type
clean
, and the click ENTER. This command deletes all data from the USB flash drive. - To create a new primary partition on the USB flash drive, type
create part pri
, and then click ENTER. - To select the partition that you just created, type
select part 1
, and then click ENTER. - To format the partition, type
f
ormat
fs=ntfs quick
, and then click ENTER.
Important If your server platform supports Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI), you should format the USB flash drive as FAT32 rather than as NTFS. To format the partition as FAT32, type format fs=fat32 quick
, and then click ENTER. - Type
active
, and then click ENTER. - Type
exit
, and then click ENTER. - When you finish preparing your custom image, save it to the root of the USB flash drive.

Rufus
1. Now Insert your USB/Pendrive into system’s USB port.Open the Rufus.exe File that you 2. have downloaded. When you will open, it will look like the following picture. The picture shown below is the only blank sample picture. What should you choose, I have mentioned in next steps.
- In Device option, choose your Pendrive. In Partition scheme and target system type option, choose MBR Partition scheme for BIOS and UEFI computer. In File System option, choose NTFS. In Cluster Size option, choose 4096 bytes.
Note: If Your Pendrive/USB device is not showing up in Rufus, click on the white triangle next to ‘Format Options’ and check ‘List USB Hard Drives’.
- Now select 2 passes.
- Tick on Quick Format option.
- Tick on Create a bootable disk using.
- Select ISO Image option instead of Freedos as shown in above picture.
- Now Select your Image File(.ISO File) that you have already downloaded, from the system.
- Tick on Create extended label and icon files.
- At last, To make bootable Pendrive, Hit on the start button.
To install Windows, Restart your computer (make sure that the Pendrive/USB has been plugged) and select boot priority USB drive. By selecting this, you are telling the system to boot from your Pendrive.
